The Chalfonte and Haddon Halls Hotels were Quaker owned, and was one of a few alcohol-free hotels in Atlantic City. When they merged, it became Atlantic City's largest hotel with 1,000 rooms.
The two properties were built in the late 1860s across from one another and underwent a number of moves and renovations over the years before becoming Chalfonte-Haddon Hall. When they merged, it became Atlantic City's largest hotel with 1,000 rooms.
Holiday Inns purchased the Chalfonte Hotel from Resorts Casino Hotel in 1979, intending to demolish the hotel and develop a new hotel-casino.
    It was demolished in 1980.
However, in 1981, they announced that the development was postponed and eventually the project was cancelled.
