Description
Hi, this is a 1977 Studebaker Avanti II. These are Rare and they were very Expensive when they were new. They came from the Factory with a Brand New Corvette Drivetrain (350 four Barrel) from Chevrolet. This car has a little over 76,000 miles on it and the engine runs good and transmission shifts fine. The steering seems ok too for the short distance I drove it. The engine needs a new lifter (you can hear it ticking) or it needs more running because the car has been sitting for years, but its definitely only a lifter and not in the bottom end. Its very obvious from the sound. The ticking seems to be getting less the more I run it lately, its probably just sticking from sitting so long, that is Very Common for lifters. It may just completely go away with more running, they often do.The engine doesn't make any other noises and it doesn't smoke either. It runs great for sitting so long. I cleaned the old gas out of the tank,etc..and put all fresh gas in 6 months ago. If you want to restore this car, you would need to cut out the hog troughs (they are very rusty, which these cars are completely know for), There are many articles on the internet on how to install new ones.I read that a lot of people cut them out and didn't replace them because they are not part of the cars structure safetywise like the frame and floors,etc.. are. They are considered more of part of the body to floors,etc.. structure and there a lot of people that say they are not really needed. Read up on the internet to see what I am talking about that I read. But if it were me I would still replace them anyway. The frame, floors, trunkpan, etc.. look decent on this car. I was going cut out the troughs and replace them and I was going to POR 15 the frame and floors ,etc.. to keep them decent. You can see in the pictures where the hog trough is rusted out, but the frame and floors are decent. If you decide to buy this car to part out, there is a LOT of money here worth of parts. All of the nice glass, nice front buckets (drivers seat needs new bolts welded on bottom bracket, old ones broke) and nice rear seat, good door panels (except easily replaced carpeted area on bottoms of panels), nice grille, most of the stainless trim is very nice (around all the windows and window frames,etc..), bumpers are not dented at all but need chroming and are only peeling some (but they are not rusted thru at all, solid surface still). Whats nice about the bumpers too is that they are each in about 3 separate pieces, which makes it easy for chroming or reselling a piece. My friend restored one of these cars about 6 years ago and he spent more on just 2 seats ,a windshield and a bumper piece than I am asking for this whole car ! This also has a perfect clean title. The body is fiberglass and is mostly stripped and is in pretty good shape. There is some minor cracking in the car here and there (mostly in the primer) so it would need to be sanded down real well. Its been sitting for years after the paint was stripped off. The only part of the body that is metal is the sunroof and it has a little rust, but its not too bad at all. I bought 4 new 5 spoke mag style hubcaps that I bought for the car that go with it. The exhaust sounds pretty decent, but I imagine that anybody that is restoring this would go with a new system. The front disc brake calipers for the front are currently off the car because I was having them rebuilt and the shop that I had doing them moved to Orlando and I got them back half completed but they and the parts come with the car. With the calipers on, the car runs and drives. I drove it 2 years ago for a few miles. The interior needs new carpet (unquestionably ! its sort a 70s shag style, lol)) and the headliner is like a one piece vinyl but is sagging around all of the outside areas, so that would need to be all reglued back into place. When I check the electrical on the car, I was surprised how much worked still. The headlights, rear and brake light, turn signals, and dash lights worked (I noticed that even a couple of the gauges were working). The dash pad is not good and is very cracked and would need to be replaced. Again, this car has a Ton of money worth of parts on it, and don't forget it has a Good running Low mileage Corvette Drivetrain. The engine and good transmission,etc.. are worth what I am asking for the whole car. If you know how to weld or do body and paint yourself, this could be an absolute steal ! These cars fixed up are not cheap to buy and they are fast and fun to drive. Please, Please do not hit the Buy it Now or make an offer unless you are 100% ready to buy. THIS IS PRCIED TO SELL FAST because I need the space and I don't have time to waste, Thanks !!
